The 8-Hour EM 385-1-1 online refresher course contains 10 learning modules on workplace safety and health standards outlined in the USACE EM 385-1-1 manual. Each module ends with a quiz.
Once you have completed the course, you will be prompted to take a 30-question final exam.
You must score at least 70% on all quizzes and the final exam. You have an unlimited number of attempts to pass each quiz and the test.

What does the EM in EM 385-1-1 stand for?
EM 385-1-1 stands for "Engineer Manual." The EM 385-1-1 manual is a USACE engineer manual that covers key safety and health requirements for military contractors and federal employees.
Is EM 385-1-1 training the same as OSHA training?
No. EM 385-1-1 requirements may be similar to OSHA standards, but there are specific USACE safety and health requirements that standard OSHA training does not address. These include accident prevention plans, penalties for noncompliance, jobsite inspections, employee training, safety management and more. EM 385-1-1 courses are not considered OSHA-authorized training.
Is this course approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers?
The 8-Hour EM 385-1-1 refresher course was developed by OSHA-authorized trainers and reviewed by industry experts at the OSHA Training Institute Education Center at the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District.
However, the federal government does not officially approve any training related to EM 385-1-1, and no course provider can earn this approval. Generally, we recommend that students check with their employers to ensure that the course meets all training requirements.
Will my course certificate expire?
No, your certificate will never expire. But we recommend that you check with your employer or job contract to determine if additional training is required. For example, SSHOs are required to complete eight or more hours of refresher training annually.
