The specific courses you need are based on your current job role and any OSHA training you've completed in the past. You can receive SST credit hours for any approved training you completed in the past five years.

  • Construction workers
  • Demolition workers

  • Employees of DOB licensees or registrants

Supervisors who need an SST Supervisor card include:

Which SST Courses Do I Need to Earn an SST Worker Card?

Construction and demolition workers can earn an SST card by completing one of the following training options:

  • Option 1: 30-hour OSHA Outreach course and 10 hours of DOB-approved SST courses
  • Option 2: 10-hour OSHA Outreach course and 30 hours of DOB-approved SST courses

Because the DOB requires workers to complete NYC Site Safety Training courses, you cannot satisfy your 40 hours of training by taking an OSHA 10 course and an OSHA 30 course.

If you are completely new to the NYC construction industry, you are considered a new entrant and need to complete the courses listed in option 2 below. You are required to take the OSHA 10-hour course before you start the job, and you will have six months to complete the remaining SST courses and electives.
