Course Details

Our MSHA Part 46 courses provide crucial safety training and potentially life-saving information to miners, supervisors, construction workers, contractors and other employees at Part 46 mines.

The 24-hour and 8-hour MSHA Part 46 New Miner Training courses educate new miners about MSHA regulations and safety requirements so they can start work at a surface mine. Our 8-hour MSHA Part 46 Refresher Training Course helps current miners satisfy their annual retraining requirement.

Modules

For the 8-Hour New Miner Training and Annual Refresher Training programs, you will progress through eight timed modules:

  1. Introduction to MSHA
  2. Overview of Surface Mining
  3. Health Hazards in Mining
  4. Hazard Communication
  5. Electricity, Fire and Explosives
  6. Mining Machinery and Equipment
  7. Materials Handling and Storage
  8. Mining Health and Safety Standards

You are required to pass a quiz before you can advance to the next module. Once all modules are completed, you must pass a 20-question final exam. You have an unlimited number of attempts to pass the quizzes and final exam.

The 24-Hour New Miner Training program includes all the topics above, plus additional education that all new hires must complete within 90 days of starting work. These additional course modules include:

  • Hazard Communication
  • Health & Wellness
  • Environmental Safety
  • Electrical Safety
  • Site Safety

While the eight-hour program provides foundational training designed to help you start work at a Part 46 mine, those looking for an all-in-one training solution can take the 24-hour program to fully comply with MSHA training requirements with one convenient course package.
