OSHA 10- and 30-Hour Outreach Training

OSHA Outreach training is a voluntary program that teaches workers how to recognize and avoid safety hazards on the job. Employers throughout New York may require this training for entry-level workers, supervisors and workers with certain safety responsibilities.

Industry-specific versions of the program are available, including courses for workers in construction and general industry. The 10-hour courses are designed for entry-level workers, and the 30-hour courses are for supervisors and workers with safety roles.

Graduates of online OSHA Outreach training receive an official 10-hour or 30-hour OSHA card from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

With the passing of NYC Local Law 196 of 2017, construction and demolition workers at most NYC worksites are now required to have a Site Safety Training card. The new training standard applies if you work at any NYC worksite with a Site Safety Plan.

The law states that affected workers must complete 30 hours of NYC Department of Buildings (DOB)-approved Site Safety Training by December 2019. Before the full compliance date of March 1, 2021, workers must earn a full Worker SST card by completing 40 total hours of Site Safety Training.
