To earn your WA OSHA certificate and your DOL-issued OSHA 10 card, you must pass several end-of-module quizzes and a final exam.
The Washington-specific portion of the course includes eight end-of-module quizzes. Each quiz has five questions. Students may attempt each quiz up to three times to achieve a score of at least 70%.
If you fail any quiz three times in a row, you will have to purchase the course again and start your training from the beginning.
The federal portion of the course includes nine end-of-module quizzes and a final exam. You have up to three attempts to pass each with a score of 70% or higher.
If you do not pass the final exam or any quiz after three attempts, you will be locked out of the course. To attempt the test or quiz again, you must purchase the course again and start over.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, creates and enforces nationwide standards that ensure safe and healthful working conditions for workers in many industries, including construction. These rules apply to all 50 states and other U.S. territories.
Some states, including Washington, maintain State Plans. These OSHA-approved plans must meet or exceed OSHA's rules. Washington's State Plan creates extra guidelines that guarantee even safer working conditions for employees in the Evergreen State.
No. Neither credential has an expiration date. However, periodic retraining is suggested at least every three years. Additionally, some employers may require you to complete refresher training to ensure you are up to date on the latest rules and regulations for your job.
Contact your employer for more information about safety training policies for your worksite.
The full program takes approximately thirteen hours to finish, split between 10 hours of OSHA-authorized Outreach Training content and three hours of Washington-specific L&I safety training.
Federal regulations set a maximum of 7.5 hours per day for OSHA Outreach Training. That means it will take you a minimum of two calendar days to complete the full program. WA L&I training does not count toward the 7.5-hour maximum.
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issues OSHA 10 cards to workers who complete 10 hours of OSHA-authorized Outreach Training on industry-specific workplace safety topics. These wallet-sized cards are printed on durable plastic and are accepted nationwide as proof of training.
An OSHA 10 card is appropriate for entry-level construction workers and trade specialists. Supervisors, forepersons and safety personnel require additional training, which can be found in the Washington State Plan course for supervisors.
Once you have successfully completed all lesson modules and assessments, you can instantly download digital copies of both your Washington OSHA Certificate of Completion and your OSHA 10 certificate. Your official plastic OSHA 10 DOL wallet card will arrive in the mail within two weeks.
