SST 16-Hour Refresher Training for Supervisors

NYC construction supervisors and managers can use this SST refresher package to renew a current DOB-issued Site Safety Training card. It contains everything necessary to renew 100% online.

Students will complete two eight-hour SST refresher training courses to qualify for a new SST card issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.

Workers and supervisors on any NYC building site with a Site Safety plan must hold a valid SST card to enter the premises. SST cards are issued by the NYC DOB and expire five years after the date of issuance.

Supervisors must complete an approved 16-hour refresher training program before the expiration date of their current cards to remain valid. Workers must complete a shorter 8-hour program to renew.

Supervisor roles that must have an SST card include:

• Site Safety Managers
• Site Safety Coordinators
• Concrete Safety Managers
• Designated Competent Persons
• Construction Superintendents

If you hold a current SST Supervisor card, this is the correct package to renew your training. If you hold an SST Worker card, complete the 8-hour refresher package instead.

Individuals may complete approved courses up to one year before the current card's expiration date for credit toward renewal.

First, you must complete initial SST training with an approved provider. The provider also needs to upload your card to the DOB's Training Connect system. Unfortunately, some training providers will skip this step. If your card can't be verified in the system, we are not able to provide your refresher card upon completion of your refresher training.

To check whether your initial card was uploaded to Training Connect, download the Training Connect smartphone app. Here's how it works:

1. Download the free Training Connect app by myComply on App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
2. Open the app and allow camera access.
3. Scan your SST card's QR code within the app.
4. If your card appears as valid, you qualify for a refresher card.

The app may indicate you have an invalid SST card. That likely means your original provider did not upload your card to Training Connect. To fix this problem, contact your original SST card provider and ask them to upload your card to the Training Connect system. If the card is not uploaded, you will be required to retake the original SST training instead of the refresher version.

Refresher training is required every five years from the date of issue printed on the front of the current SST card. If your first card was issued in 2019, for example, you must renew in 2024, 2029, 2034, etc.

You may repeat the same courses each time you renew. You are not required to choose new refresher training options for each renewal.

Yes, we validate certificates from other training providers. If you have completed some of your refresher training with another DOB-approved SST trainer, you can upload your certificate of completion, proof of address and other verification documents to be credited for your work.

The process is simple. We will help you complete each step and receive your new card.

First, complete all approved training. Master each lesson and pass the final exam for both refresher courses. Then you just need to upload a few required documents. That includes pictures of the front and back of your current SST card.

Once you submit all the necessary items, you just have to wait for your new official card to arrive in the mail. Your freshly printed, DOB-issued SST card will include a new issue date and a new expiration date.

No. Local Law 196 offers three approved course tracks that supervisors can use to renew an SST card. Students must follow one of the three options exactly using the curriculum established by the law. The approved course packages are:

Courses may be taken individually, so long as the student completes one of the entire course loads presented above. However, our refresher package makes the process simple. It includes all the courses in the first track.

Students must complete a course program specified by the DOB to be eligible for SST renewal. Supervisors may not make any course substitutions, nor is partial credit awarded for completing parts of multiple tracks.

You may only renew a current card. If you pass the expiration date for your SST card, your credentials lapse and you must start the training process over again from the beginning as a new student. That means repeating the full 32-Hour or 62-Hour supervisor site safety training program.

You may begin your refresher training up to one year before your card expires. Pay close attention to that date, as the renewal process is much easier than the initial training process.
