OSHA Safety Training for Spanish-Speaking Construction Workers

Latino and Hispanic workers now represent more than 20% of Construction employees in the United States. In 2013, Latino and Hispanic workers were the only demographic to experience an increase in fatality rate. Since 2010, the number of Latino and Hispanic worker deaths has steadily increased, in contrast to the downward trend among whites, blacks and Asians.

One of the factors thought to contribute to this disparity is inappropriate or ineffective safety training. When OSHA training is not provided in the workers' native language, or when workers do not fully grasp the safety fundamentals taught in training, they may feel pressured by employers to sign a form stating that they have been properly trained. If workers refuse to sign, they risk losing their job.

The Importance of OSHA Safety Training in Spanish

Our Spanish 10-hour Construction training provides a solid baseline of safety knowledge to help Spanish-speaking workers understand OSHA standards, recognize common workplace hazards and know when to speak up and request assistance to work safely. The Spanish course content is identical to our 10-hour course in English, so supervisors can know that all workers are receiving equal training. The course also features our signature animations and interactions, which not only help to illustrate important safety concepts, but also ensure that each employee can demonstrate their understanding before moving on to the next topic.

While this course satisfies OSHA training requirements for most employers, it is not an OSHA-authorized Outreach course and does not provide an official OSHA card from the U.S. Department of Labor. OSHA does not currently offer Outreach training in Spanish.
